Reaching for the Stars Through STEAM

Through DoD STARBASE Oklahoma, fifth graders explore Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math with hands-on projects—like rockets, robots, and chemistry experiments—that make learning unforgettable.

What is STARBASE?

STARBASE Oklahoma connects students with real-world STEAM through inquiry-based lessons that spark curiosity and build confidence for future success. Our programs engage students with “hands-on, minds-on” activities—exploring Newton’s Laws, engineering design, robotics, chemistry, forms of energy, and computer modeling. Math is woven throughout the curriculum as students apply measurement, estimation, and problem-solving skills to real-world challenges.

"STARBASE is an incredible experience for our kids. They talk about their memories and learning for years after. They grow as a class and as individuals in just five weeks. It is life changing for our kids.

Ms. Liv is absolutely incredible with our students. They love her and love learning from her. She is one of the most influential parts of STARBASE!"

"I love the teachers, they are so nice, funny and energetic! I loved all the activities we did like eggbert, straw rockets and elephant toothpaste!

Ms. Liv is so nice and funny, and Mr. Brian is the funniest. I love STARBASE so much, I can’t wait to come back for summer camp!"

Gracie

Student, Union City Elementary

"The coolest thing about Starbase Tulsa is that my mom used to come here when she was younger, and now, I'm here and having a lot of fun.  My favorite activity was Eggbert because we got to design him a safety harness so he wouldn't have a crash landing."

Tymber

Student

Your teachers are fantastic! You have a wonderful program and we cannot wait to come back next year!

Cori Anderson

Osage Elementary

"Starbase Tulsa is so engaging and the kid can't wait to come here each week, they talk for days about how much learning and fun they had!"

Mrs. Robbins

Teacher, Barnsdall

"My favorite activity was the drones, they were really fun because I got to fly them around and go through all sorts of paths and go through hoops, it was really fun!"

Cade

Student

"My favorite things was the Sphero robots, because was got to code them with an IPad and guide them through different obstacles and paths."

Ava

Student

"I really enjoyed the drones because I always wanted to drive one, and we had a big area to fly them and learn how they work!"

✈️ Day 5 at STARBASE Tulsa & Avant = Career Day DONE RIGHT! ✈️

Our final day with Avant took learning to new heights—literally! Cadets headed to the hangar for an up-close look at the F-16 Tulsa Vipers, complete with an incredible guided tour by Master Sgt. Hagen of the 138th Fighter Wing. Seeing these aircraft firsthand brought STEM concepts to life in a powerful way.

Back in the classroom, cadets put their new knowledge to the test by simulating F-16 flight and avionics using our own flight simulators, connecting real-world aviation careers with hands-on learning.

We wrapped up an unforgettable week with cadet graduation, celebrating curiosity, confidence, and a future full of possibilities. What a fantastic way to end Day 5! 🎓🚀

We’ve been having an absolute BLAST with Crutcho Public School District- Home of the Tigers 5th grader from Ms. Jackson’s class, joined by the amazing Ms. Chapel!✨

From diving into nanotechnology to learning how to keep EggBert safe🐣, and putting ALL of our energy to work at today’s with our energy stations ⚡️these students have shown up curious, engaged, and ready to learn every single time.

They are a fun-loving group with big hearts, big brains, and even bigger questions. Their excitement for learning is contagious, and it’s been such a joy teaching them, learning alongside them, and watching their minds light up during hands-on experiments.

Three weeks of growing, exploring, and discovering down… and we still have two more weeks to go and we couldn’t be more excited! 💫 These students are going far, and we’re grateful to be part of their journey.

Millwood 5th grade cadets from Ms. Stockard-Jones’ class have been bringing the ENERGY every time they walk through our doors! ⚡️✨

From exploring energy and chemistry with Pop Goes the Fizz 🧪💥 to putting Newton’s Third Law into action by launching rockets 🚀these past few weeks have been full of hands-on learning, curiosity, and so many “aha!” moments.

They’re excited, engaged, and eager to learn and that’s exactly what STEM is all about. This group is fun, full of life, and always ready to jump in and try something new. We’ve loved watching them grow, experiment, and learn through doing.

Three weeks of creating, questioning, testing, and learning and honestly? It’s been the BEST time. 💛
STEM-tastic doesn’t even begin to cover it!
